Ever wondered how gin is really made?

master distilling Experience at Conrad distillery

There is something magical about stepping behind the still. The copper gleam, the scent of juniper and citrus in the air, the quiet theatre of spirit becoming something elegant, balanced, and alive. At Conrad Distillery, our Master Distilling Experience invites guests to do more than taste great spirits. It invites them to create one.

Our Craft Distiller for the Day experience is designed for those who have ever wondered how gin is really made, and for those who simply love the idea of turning an afternoon into a story worth retelling. Over 2–3 hours, guests are guided through the art, science, and creativity of distilling in a hands-on workshop led by our Master Distiller.

This is not a lecture dressed up as an experience. It is immersive, practical, social, and deeply enjoyable. You will explore the journey of distillation from moonshine to whiskey, from bathtub gin to modern botanical vodka, and discover how centuries-old methods still shape the world’s finest spirits today. Along the way, you will learn how flavour is built, how cuts are made, and how balance, refinement, and technique transform raw spirit into something memorable.

Then comes the best part: creating your own. Guests are invited to personalise their flavour profile and craft a spirit that reflects their own palate. Whether you lean toward bright citrus, warm spice, floral lift, or a classic juniper-forward style, this is your chance to experiment, blend, and bottle with expert guidance. By the end of the session, you will leave with a 375ml bottle of your personally crafted gin or vodka to take home.

Of course, no Conrad experience would be complete without pleasure at the centre of learning. Throughout the workshop, guests enjoy four drinks per person, which may include cocktails, tastings, or spirits, along with a light grazing platter and refreshments. The mood is relaxed and welcoming, making it ideal for individuals, couples, or small groups looking for something genuinely different.

What makes this experience especially memorable is the combination of craftsmanship and connection. You are not simply watching from the sidelines. You are measuring, blending, cutting, refining, tasting, and bottling. You are stepping into the world of a working distillery and seeing exactly how artisan spirits are brought to life.

Set in the heart of Queensland’s Wine Country, Conrad Distillery offers an experience that feels both refined and grounded. It is perfect for visitors seeking something beyond the usual cellar door stop, for gin lovers wanting a deeper understanding of their favourite spirit, and for groups celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, or simply the joy of doing something unforgettable together.

If you have ever wanted to go beyond drinking gin and actually understand it, this is your invitation. Come behind the still. Learn the craft. Create your own bottle. Leave with new knowledge, a handcrafted spirit, and a story that tastes as good as it sounds.

Book as an individual, couple, or small group of up to 6 guests.

The Invisible Architecture of Spirits: Why Resting Changes Everything

Vodka may appear simple, but beneath its clarity lies a quiet transformation. As it rests, tiny flavour compounds (congeners) soften and integrate, while alcohol and water form structured groupings (molecular clusters) that shape texture and smoothness. At Conrad Distillery, we honour this invisible process, resting our spirits for 30 days between distillations, allowing time to refine not just flavour, but the very structure of the spirit.
