2022 INAUGURAL INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S SPIRITS COMPETITION

In a world-class eco-friendly distillery where rescued wine gets a second life as premium craft spirits, there was plenty to celebrate. Conrad Distillery, in Queensland’s Wine Country, earned a Double Gold Medal for its first release, Conrad Vodka, at the 2022 International Women’s Spirits Competition.

As the craft spirits industry grew around the world, the organisers expanded the International Women’s Wine Competition to include spirits. As a result, they created the first international spirits competition judged entirely by women.

The judging panel brought together professional distillers, winemakers, sommeliers, retail buyers, beverage educators, and journalists. Together, they selected the best spirits and identified the products most likely to appeal to women consumers.

Founder and Master Distiller Debra Spence felt both thrilled and humbled to receive such a prestigious award so early in the distillery’s journey.

“These awards recognise the passion and hard work behind Conrad Vodka. More importantly, they show that people appreciate our vision of giving rescued wine a second life as exceptional spirits.”

The judges praised Conrad Vodka for its clean fruity aroma, silky mouthfeel, excellent balance, and full-bodied finish.

Meanwhile, Debra and the team spent 90 days crafting the vodka using traditional triple pot distillation. That patience created a fresh, smooth spirit with a gentle hint of sweetness from the wine it began with.
